Livio Luongo

Livio Luongo is Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Campania, “L. Vanvitelli, Naples, Italy. Dr. Luongo received a B.Sc. in Pharmacy at the University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy, and earned a PhD in Pharmacology in 2008 with a thesis focused on the role of microglia cells in neuropathic pain, particularly highlighting the role of CB2 cannabinoid receptors on those cells.

The research of Dr. Luongo has been focused on chronic neuroinflammatory diseases such as neuropathic pain and trauma, with particular pharmacological manipulation of the purinergic and endocannabhinoid systems. Dr. Luongo is the author of more than 150 peer reviewed papers published in specific journals in his field, including Pain, Brain, PNAS, Cerebral Cortex, Neuropsychopharmacology, and FASEB-J. Dr. Luongo owns several research projects funded as principal investigator (PI) and co-PI. He has been invited to many international conferences, including the IASP, EFIC, ACNP, Gordon Conference, and ICRS.
