Erica Zamberletti is Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, University of Insubria, Varese (Italy). She obtained her Ph.D. in Neurobiology in 2013 studying the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in animal models of psychosis in the laboratory headed by Professor Daniela Parolaro. Since then, her research interests have mainly been centered on the role of cannabinoids in psychiatric and neurodevelopmental diseases. She works in the field of cannabinoid pharmacology taking into account both the toxicological aspects in vulnerable period of brain development as well as their possible therapeutic utility in brain disease models. She is currently involved in two major research lines: one line of research is aimed at investigating the long-term consequences of exposures to exogenous cannabinoids, THC and CBD, in adolescent male and female rodent models; a second research line is aimed at evaluating, at preclinical level, the possible therapeutic exploitation of some cannabinoids for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder. She received research grants funded by her academic institution, the Italian Ministry of Research as well as private foundations.
