Antonio Pagano Zottola
University of Bordeaux, INSERM, Bordeaux Institute of Oncology, France
Antonio Pagano Zottola, after completing his pharmacy studies, pursued a PhD at the University of Salerno (Italy), initially focusing on the role of the Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) in brain cancers. Since 2015, his research has expanded to investigate the effects of cannabinoids on brain metabolism. During his first postdoctoral fellowship at the Neurocentre Magendie in Bordeaux, in the Marsicano lab, he specialized in studying mitochondrial-associated CB1 (mtCB1), with particular emphasis on its intramitochondrial pathway and its implications for brain function.
In 2021, as a postdoctoral researcher, he joined the Daubon Lab at the Institute of Biochemistry and Cellular Genetics in Bordeaux, where he focused on the metabolic plasticity of glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Since assuming the position of Junior Professor at the University of Bordeaux in September 2023, he has been working at the Bordeaux Institute of Oncology as part of the ‘Tumoral and Vascular Biology’ team. His current research project focuses on elucidating the role of the mtCB1 receptor in cancer cell metabolism, specifically in the progression of glioblastoma.
